A technological breakthrough from Canon which allows you to use 4-different types of lenses in 4-different ways.

The EOS system was introduced in 1987 and it keeps rolling.

Why Canon EOS R is different?

Canon EOS R The Next Big Thing

Canon’s new RF mount offers unique packaging of features & capability within Canon’s lineup. The new RF mount comes with the original 54mm diameter of the EF mount & it also reduces the flange-back distance from 44mm to 20mm.

The new mount comes with a 12-pin communication system which initiates faster communication between the camera & the lens. The EOS R comes with all new Digic 8 processor which allows reading more detailed information from a gyro lens & compare it in real time against the blur seen on the image sensor.

Another new feature M-Fn Bar has been introduced for Canon cameras just next to the viewfinder. It’s a touchbar which allows to either tap or swipe to set up a customizable function. The swipe or tap function can be set to ‘off’ individually.

With the C-Raw format, the files are 40% smaller compared to the other Canon Raw files & on top of that, you won’t notice any degradation in the picture quality until you push the files by several levels.

The new EOS R is capable of recording 4K videos on top of that Dual Pixel Auto-Focus is also available during video recording.

The EOS R comes with an adapter, which is capable of mounting EF/EF-S lenses to EOSR.

Canon EOS R: Designing & FeaturesCanon EOS R The Next Big Thing

The EOS R has a comfortable grip which gives an excellent impression when you first pick it up. The body is made up of magnesium alloy which gives a tough and impressively solid feel. Canon also says it’s a fully weather sealed camera.

The EOS R is said to be a lightweight camera as it weighs around 66og (body, battery & SD card) but the body just weighs 580g. Moreover, it’s very compact with a dimension of 135.8 x 98.3 x 67.7 mm and a size of 107mm which is less than Mark IV (118mm).

The new Canon EOS R is a fully customizable camera wherein you can have multiple options to set AF. It also has Silent Motor wherein you are not going to hear autofocus.

The control ring in the front allows you to set ISO while taking pictures.

It comes in with in-built Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but also 22 custom functions.

Picture & Video

As we know the EOS R has a 30.3 megapixel full-frame mirrorless CMOS sensor. The EOS R also comes with Eye detection feature in still mode. It also has a focus guide & tilt-shift which can be used for stills and videos.

It has a 3:2 aspect ratio with RGB primary colour filters. The low pass filter is installed in front of the image sensor but that is not detachable.

Talking about the Image format it enables JPEG, RAW (14 bit Canon original) & C-RAW (Canon Original).

RAW + JPEG simultaneous recording is possible in the EOS R. Colour spacing is available between sRGB & Adobe RGB. Moreover, the EOS R gives you an option to delete RAW, JPEG & RAW + JPEG simultaneously.

Canon introduced Nano-USM technology which has fast focusing capacity and excellent for video.

The C-Log gives you a better result in a video in colour grading or post-production.

It has a Phase-difference detection system with an image sensor also termed as Dual Pixel CMOS AF. The EOS R has a maximum of 5,655 AF points when selected with cross keys. You can see the edges of the subject highlighted as you shift focus and it’s a smart way to ensure that the subject you need is in focus.

The AF works in a low light focus (-6EV) which captures pictures at ISO 3200 f/1.4 sec to 18 EV. The standard ISO ranges between 100 – 40000 somewhere similar to 6D Mark II. The ISO range can be expanded down to 50 and up to 51,200 or 102,400.

The camera has 3 focusing modes.

  1. Single AF
  2. Servo AF
  3. Manual Focus

Canon EOS R The Next Big Thing

Canon EOS R has a TFT colour liquid crystal monitor with a 3.5-inch fully articulating screen. The screen has approximately 2.10 million dots which covers approximately 100% horizontally/vertically.

The electronic viewfinder gives you the exact picture of what you see or willing to capture on the OLED screen and when your eyes are close to the EVF the OLED screen sets to turn OFF.

The OLED screen allows you to capture images from various angles with ease.

Even in the burst mode, the screen shows what you clicked, i.e the screen does not get turn off.

Talking about the sensor, it comes with a lid and sets to turn on only when the camera is on. This feature keeps the camera sensor safe and dust free. Moreover, you can change the lenses anytime and at any point.Canon EOS R The Next Big Thing

The sensor size is 36.0 x 24.0 mm, with a pixel dimension of 6720 x 4480 as well as an EOS integrated cleaning system.

It comes with the LP-E6N battery as other high-end cameras. However, you can still use the old LP-E6 battery but that won’t last long and on top of that, you lose the capacity to charge the battery in the camera.

The battery indicator has a 6 levels + indicator.

You can click approx 370 shots at 23° and 350 shots at 0°, when it comes in ‘power saving mode’ you can take 450 shots at 23° and 430 shots at 0°.

The results are different from the paper when you start using it.

The Canon EOS R is available at Rs. 1,74,995/- ($2484.84).

If you are looking forward to a smart, handy and next-generation camera for photography then the Canon EOS R is the answer.
