A look into the royal celebrations.

Rajmata Padmini Devi of Jaipur celebrated her 75th birthday with a lavish party that was fit for a queen, but the most endearing part about the night was that the festivities were in fact a surprise to her, organised by none other than her grandson, Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur, or Pacho as he’s popularly known.

It was held in City Palace,The idea was to create an evening that was evocative of the queen mother’s younger days, and the celebration resulted in a beautiful, yet a nostalgic affair with a 1950s theme.

Making a statement with her entrance, Rajmata Padmini Devi walked in with the Royal Lavajama in tow, escorted by both her grandsons, Padmanabh Singh and Lakshya Raj Singh of Sirmaur, and one or her closest friends, veteran actor Jaya Bachchan. The guests wore masks of Padmini Devi’s favourite actors and actresses from the 1950s during her entry.

Some of her favourite things, such as hand-engraved perfume jars, cut-glass decanters, silver hand mirrors and delicate hand fans were subtly incorporated in the decor, and the royal crest was embroidered onto cushions and napery too. The evening was scented by oversized bouquets of tuberoses, which, as it turns out, are her favourite flower.

The opulent yet private soiree was attended by family and close friends. Princess Gauravi Kumari of Jaipur, Yuvraj Vrishankaditya Parmar of Santnampur, Maharana Pranjayaditya of Santrampur and Maharani Mandakini Kumari of Santrampur were all seen at the lavish evening, and the guest list also included celebrity jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali, her parents Sanjay and Zarine Khan, actor and politician Beena Kak, playback singer Kanika Kapoor and nutritionist Nisha Singh, along with other known faces such as Jyotiraditya and Priyadarshini Scindia, Sanjeev Bali, Angelique Singh, Vijaykriti Rathore and Shambhavi Singh Kumari.
